School Ski Trip - Aprica 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Ruth leads her group down the piste

Ten Dalry pupils joined 149 others from Dumfries High, Dumfries Academy, Dalbeattie High and Castle Douglas for the 2009 ski trip to Aprica in Italy. Our group, made up of Ruth from S3 and nine second year pupils, left Dumfries on Saturday 14 February at 4.30 am – sometimes referred to as the middle of the night – and arrived in Aprica at 11 am on Sunday.

The snow conditions were perfect, huge amounts having fallen the previous week, and for our six days in the resort, the sun shone continuously. Most of the Dalry group were beginners but by midweek all had mastered enough technical expertise to jump aboard “the bubble”, leave the beginners’ slopes behind and go up the mountain to ski blue and red runs. This is a great achievement reflecting credit on the youngsters and their Italian instructors.

The pupils also enjoyed a full programme of “après ski” activities including visits to the local nightclub, ten pin bowling and Pizza Night. Despite being exhausted by five hours on the slopes, they miraculously regained enough energy to enjoy the night life with new found friends from the other four schools involved.

It was another wonderful ski holiday and all at Dalry would like to thank Mr Findlater and Mr Sloan from Dumfries Academy for all their hard work organising the trip.

Hotel Bozzi and the bubblepizza night - oviously good appetities!
